Int. Summer Academy BERGSAITEN, July 21st to 26th, 2025 in Neuberg, Austria
Resonance theory is a SOUND movement practice, which can also be described as a consistent whole-body instrumental or singing lesson. The point is that all muscles of the body respond appropriately to the sounds heard, and not just the muscles of the specific instrumental technique.
For most musicians, the greatest potential for a confident appearance on stage lies in organizing the entire body with the instrument like a mobile. In a mobile, the parts do not fight with each other, but rather support each other in a harmonious way. In the body’s Mobilé organization, all emerging movements, including breathing movements, are balanced in real time so that the system always acts as a whole.
“The more resonant the sound, the freer the musical movement.”
The resonance spectrum of a musician’s sound reflects the overall condition of all the muscles in the body. For musicians, free movement means balanced movements. If the movements are balanced, all the muscles in the body will gradually come into a balanced state.
Balanced muscles are free from tension, cramps or pain. Muscles do not have to be relaxed when making music, but rather have a medium muscle tone and can freely tension and relax in variable mixtures, depending on the music. Musical muscles are supple and elastic.
In order to achieve this optimal basic condition for making music, there are SOUND movement exercises in the resonance theory, which, with continuous practice, enable an ever deeper balance of the entire body.
Contractive, unbalanced movement habits are replaced by space-opening, balanced movement habits. The result is a resonant sound quality with many overtones and undertones, in which the sound is well represented in the room. This increases confidence when playing, enabling a richness of musical expression that corresponds to the musical-artistic potential. Ultimately, the main theme of resonance theory is musical freedom.
The course is aimed at musicians of all instruments and vocals.
Depending on the actual number of participants, each active participant receives three to four 45-60 minute individual lessons on resonance theory with an instrument or voice. All participants can listen to the other musicians. In addition, we carry out the SOUND movement exercises of resonance theory together throughout the day.
